Vision and Ethics

Kotahi te kohao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro ma, te miro pango, te miro whero.

All pass through the one eye of the needle.

The Waiheke Ostend Market is a Community Market operated by the Waiheke Community Childcare Centre.

Our market has a commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi. We manaaki all and follow the three principles of the Treaty:

  • Partnership - We work in partnership through the Council legislative, the Local Board, Auckland City Council, Community Liaisons and the Waiheke Community Childcare Centre Committee

  • Protection - Hauora, we create a safe space following Health and Safety Laws and Auckland City rules and regulations from our Licence to Occupy Ostend Reserve

  • Participation – With the Community of Waiheke, stallholders and stakeholders and all visitors to Waiheke and the Market.

When we uphold and respect the mana of people we are upholding the wellbeing of our community.

This respect encompasses diversity. Our Market is and has been a commonplace for all the people of Waiheke and its many visitors since it began in 1975.

Our Vision is to provide a Market that is a friendly, vibrant, diverse and interesting place for young and old people from all walks of life. We welcome all Stallholders and in particular community groups, at the discretion of the Market Coordinators, that wish to use the Market as a forum to introduce their services and community initiatives free of charge. Children and Youth may have a stall at a discounted rate. We believe if the Market is flourishing it will benefit all of our Community including all the traders and visitors of the Market.

We welcome entertainment and activities for both children and adults and wish to provide a peaceful, safe, and supportive environment for all of our visitors and stallholders at the Market.

We endeavour to become sustainable and earth friendly, minimising any negative impact on the environment.

We aim to be transparent and fair. We ask our Stallholders to sign and uphold our Waiheke Ostend Market Stallholder Treaty/Agreement.

We believe if the Market is flourishing it will benefit all of our Community including the traders and visitors alike.
